VAT Reclaim Services
What are VAT Reclaims?
VAT Reclaims is a process whereby businesses can reclaim Value Added Tax (VAT) that has been paid on goods or services. VAT is a tax that is applied to most goods and services, with the rate varying from country to country. For businesses operating in multiple countries, it can become difficult to keep track of all their VAT payments. VAT refunds for UAE-related VAT are claimed from the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) via the FTA’s EmaraTax portal using the relevant refund form (for registrants use VAT311).
What is included in VAT Reclaims Services?
VAT reclaims services are a vital part of the accounting process, providing businesses with significant financial savings and improved cash flow. As VAT is an area where many businesses struggle, the right VAT reclaims services can help ensure that all claims are made promptly and accurately. When considering a service provider for VAT reclaims, it is important to understand what they offer.
- Commonly they will provide advice on how best to claim back any overpaid or incorrectly charged VAT bills.
- They should also be able to identify missed opportunities in relation to eligible expenses and advise you on how to claim them back.
- Additionally, some providers may offer specific software solutions that automate much of the reclaim process, making it simpler and more efficient for businesses of all sizes.
The purpose of the claim
Every Taxable Person is required to submit a VAT return outlining the VAT owed to the FTA for the tax period. If the input tax exceeds the output tax on a VAT return, the Taxable Person can request a refund after submitting the return or later when a credit is owed to them.
What is the IBAN Validation Letter?
IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. An IBAN (bank account) validation letter issued and stamped by the applicant’s bank and confirming the account holder name (matching the FTA registered name), bank name/address, SWIFT/BIC and the IBAN is normally required with many types of FTA refund applications. EmaraTax also auto-validates UAE beneficiary accounts, but you should still attach the bank validation letter where the FTA refund guidance requests it (or where auto-validation is not available).
VAT Refund in Dubai, UAE
When it comes to dealing with excess input VAT, also known as VAT return, taxpayers have two options:
- A VAT refund will be available to the taxpayer.
- If he does not request a refund of the excess input VAT, the excess recoverable tax will be carried over to future tax periods and used to decrease the tax and/or penalties owed; nevertheless, he may seek for a refund at any time..
Following the submission of the VAT Return, you must complete the 'Form VAT311' VAT refund application.

- Within five working days, there was no response to any additional needs.
- Incorrect attachments.
- Unmatched summary with the applicant's VAT returns.
Timeline for Refunds
When a taxpayer files a refund claim, the FTA will first evaluate and review it within 20 business days of receiving it.
